I encourage you to rise higher and truly know “yourself” so you can begin to do and be all you are destined to do, be, - and have. I believe you want this year to make a rallying difference - in your relationships, health, peace, joy, spiritual walk, sense of accomplishment and fulfillment, and MUCH more.
Now, to have a successful, rewarding start and year, you must know your answers to these two basic categories: 1) What do you want to do and have more of in your life, and 2) what do you NOT want to do or to repeat in your life?
By knowing your answers, you will avoid a year of aimlessly bumping along. Instead, you will live your authentic, vibrant life and keep it from fading into oblivion. You will get unstuck and out of that pit, leading nowhere, and stop doing what you do not want to repeat. It is time to change all that and change your life!
Really knowing what you DO want and do NOT want can transform your life! So, let’s begin:
Question 1: What do you want less of or want to eliminate in your life and activities?
Consider what you never want to do or experience again. Renowned psychologist Dr. Henry Cloud wrote a sensible little book: NEVER GO BACK - 10 Things You’ll Never Do Again. The title alone stirs an introspective look at what you already may sense is a waste of your valuable time and only leads to fatigue, loss, dissatisfaction, or resentment.
What are those areas for you? ___________________________________________________________________
Further, he suggests considering areas where we’ve sacrificed our needs or heart’s desires in a wasted effort to please someone we can’t please (fruitless “people pleasing”), attempting to change someone who does not want to change, or trying to be someone or something that is simply not our authentic “self.”
So, what behaviors do you want to eliminate? ___________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________
Think about activities you no longer want to do. These could include those that are not a priority in this phase of your life or “over-tolerance” of others’ dysfunctional and negative behaviors that only deplete and derail you.
What are some hurtful behaviors or people you may need less involvement with this year?________________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________
Question 2: What do you WANT to do, have, enjoy, or accomplish in this new year?
What do you need or want to do more of that will help you live the life you were meant to live? ________________________________________________________________________________________________What have you enjoyed in the past and would like more of in your life now? ________________________________________________________________________________________________
This time next year, what will you wish you had done more of this year? ________________________________________________________________________________________________
For this moment, open your heart and imagination and consider: What are the true desires of your heart? Where are your gifts, talents, personality traits, past experiences – good and bad, likes and dislikes leading you? What are you “all about” and what is the most fulfilling, healthy, joyful, rewarding life you desire?
What makes your heart sing? That’s where you want this year to go. ________________________________________________________________________________________________
After clarifying your answers to these two personal categories, begin seeing yourself living your new centered, peaceful, and full life, and start acting as though you are already living it! You’ve got this! My prayer is that you Thrive in ’25!! And I believe this can be your best year yet!
